Spring has reluctantly decided to start making an appearance. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining - I'm very excited that spring is on the way. Very very excited. I am SO done with all this snow everywhere! It's just the transition that I hate. The slush, flooded roads, mud everywhere, every single vehicle on the road varying degrees of brown mud, and did I mention potholes??? Obviously things aren't this bad, but it looked kind of funny. (While I was searching for a pothole picture I came across this which I think is actually real and it made me laugh. You know your roads are bad when...)

Maybe it's because the roads contract in the winter because of the cold and then expand in the summer or maybe it's because of all the huge heavy trucks that are driving on them but either way, there are TONS of potholes everywhere. It's also a little dangerous when there's water on the roads and you can't see them. The route I usually take through town to pick up Aidan (there's also a back road I could take, but I usually steer clear of it when it's super muddy or icy) has a couple stretches with some pretty decent sized potholes whose positions I have almost memorized. I'm almost to the point where I can miss every single one - provided I'm paying very close attention to the road and there aren't any huge trucks beside or in front of me spraying mud all over my windshield. Yeah it's not cool. You guys know who you are!
Aidan and Brooklynn had a blast on Sunday. I had cleaned his room so it was cleaner than it had been in awhile and also set up his train track before she came over. 15 minutes after they had gone to his room to play I peeked in and it looked like they were just trying to make the biggest mess they could. I wasn't very impressed, but I guess I should have expected it.
Brooklynn had brought a little purse with some money for the offering, so right before we walked over to church I gave Aidan a little money to put in his pocket for the offering as well. We stopped to talk to an usher and the kids dug their money out and got to be the first to put it in the offering plate which they thought was cool. Then it was upstairs to Sonshine Kids with Aidan racing ahead and showing Brooklynn where to go. I met up with Tammy who I used to work with in the foyer and it was nice to see her again!
After church Michael went up and got Aidan and Brooklynn and we went home to get some coloring books together and then headed out to lunch. I guess it's the same whenever you add one more kid to the mix but having 2 that day sure changed the dynamic! Pat came out with us and said 'this is what you guys will look like in a year!' which is weird to think of. There's 2 kids to buckle in, 2 hands to hold, 2 bruised little egos to soothe when they can't be the first or only person to open the door, 2 kids to take to the bathroom - at least they went at the same time.
They both got the exact same thing for lunch: chocolate milk, chicken nuggets and fries. Brooklynn saved her chocolate milk and hardly drank any of it, and Aidan sucked his back so fast we had to take it away so he would have some left for when his lunch came. When we went to the bathroom there was another lady in there that asked me if they were twins!! They both have white blond hair and are about the same height even though I think Brooklynn is a little older. I said oh my goodness no!! At one point I wanted twins but thank goodness that never happened - one at a time is plenty enough for me.
After lunch the plan was to go home and play outside and I was very pleased that Aidan would have someone to run around with out there, but Brooklynn decided that she didn't want to go outside, so Aidan stayed in with her. We had a mini-catastrophe when Aidan had to let Brooklynn choose which show they were going to watch and she chose Dora rather than Thomas which is what he wanted to watch. We explained to him that she was his guest so he should let her choose. They played babies with Aidan's teddy and Brooklynn's Furby, attempted to pull or push each other around in the laundry basket (I found this highly entertaining), and chased each other around the house screaming. By the time 4:00 rolled around though, Brooklynn was asking where her mom was and Aidan was anxious for her to leave so he could watch Thomas. The minute Naomi did show up, the two of them were busy asking when they could get together again :)
This coming Saturday is going to be super busy for Aidan. He's got his last Salamander swimming lesson, a long overdue haircut with Auntie Bev, a birthday party for Darlene's grand-daughter Sammy at Darlene's house with the whole daycare crew, and then a babysitter that evening while Michael and I are out. I think Sunday we're going to stay home and lie on the couch all day!! I hate making him this busy when he's so young which is why I usually try to only schedule one activity at a time and then give him some time before starting up a new one. If we had the money and I had the time and energy he could be in swimming, gymnastics, soccer, playschool, dayprograms - it's crazy just how many things he could be in at such a young age. I want him to be able to be exposed to all sorts of experiences but without getting burnt out from being in too many things!
