Another Trip...

Tomorrow the kids and I are heading out on another trip - yeah, ANOTHER trip! This one has been in the works for awhile though, we're going down to visit my parents in Abbotsford. I'm excited to have a little time to relax and also to have a break from being alone with the kids 24/7 (Michael's been back up in Kitimat for almost a month). And of course, it will be good to visit with my parents and do some fun stuff like going to the Zoo and heading up to Cultas Lake.

I've been busy packing and getting everything ready and tomorrow's the big day - our flight leaves at 7am which means we'll be up shortly after 5. Ughhh...as I've gotten older I've become less of a morning person. Perhaps that has something to do with having kids? :) Keira must have thought that we would need some practice getting up that early because she woke up at 5:30! First I tried ignoring her and then when it was clear that wasn't working, I tried cuddling her in my bed but gave up around 6 when she sat up and asked me to paint her nails. Her vocabulary is growing bigger every day and it's so sweet when she tries to ask or explain something.

So now she's sitting on the couch looking like she's going to fall asleep at any moment and I'm waiting for the banana bread to finish baking. 41 minutes.....

Adventures in Eating

It's always good to have a few dinners to fall back on - quick, easy, yummy and something the whole family loves. My favourite two are grilled cheese with tomato soup or pancakes. Tonight I was planning on making fish and fries but then a rainstorm swept in and the wind started howling and it just felt like a good night for grilled cheese.

At this point I've pretty much given up eating dinner at the same time as the kids. They're hungry and don't like waiting until everyone has been served and is sitting down so usually they eat first and I eat after they've gone to bed. Aidan got giddy when he heard we were having 'gorl cheese and mato soup' but Keira's not such a fan. She loves cheese and likes it best by itself, not squished between bread. If she does get a sandwich, she pries it apart, picks off the remaining bread and eats the cheese. So we've compromised, fingers of buttered bread to dip in the soup, slices of pure, untouched cheese and tomato soup with crackers.

What a great dinner! I'm getting hungry just looking at that picture up there....maybe they'll have an early bedtime tonight! :)
